Both sets are formed on parallelograms, with one set of parallelograms sloped upward to the right and the other sloped downward to the right. When alternated, the result is a zigzaggy line of text. In applications that support the OpenType feature contextual alternatives (calt), the two sets of letters are automatically alternated. The Bannetters family has two styles, one with straight outer edges and the other that rounds these shapes for letters that have curved exteriors. This was at the time when Flash was very popular with its usage of bitmap fonts, especially Miniml’s fonts. Having that in mind, I saw the grid on which the logo was stitched on. So I decided to scan the logo and recreate the whole character set starting with the available letters (“P”, “R”, “O”, “D”, etc.). After that was done, I modified each letter in its grid to make it more of a custom job. When I was first designing the font, it was called “Prodige 04, a grid based type experiment”, because I wanted to do 4 weights (which I finally did). The font took me an additional year to complete.
